Mink's Hoggies
Hey all. Just wanted to show case my small collection of western hognoses. Each will have some pics and a bit about their individual personalities.
Starting things off is Horus. (Named by mom). He was my first one ever and was an 'oopsie' pick up at a con at the beginning of this year along with my lesserbee male BP Moko. Horus was a meager $40 as he was only 1 of 3 'normal' phase males that a rather high end breeder produced. The other hogs at the table that were not normals were going for $300-$5k (i think it was a lavender super conda female...not sure though). How could I say no?!?! Ao, I snached him up and began my journy down Hognose Highway.
He is by far the sweetest, most 'gentlemanly' of any of my snakes. He has rarely refused food but somehow is a slow grower. He always politely takes his meal, then whipes his chin and settles in. He has never hissed or puffed up at me either. Even when in blue. His color is a 'red phase normal' and to my knowledge he is not het for anything. Here he is in a bit of sunlight that came in through my window.
The next 4 I got as rescues from a woman who could nonlonger properly care for them due to health issues. The condition most of the animals I tooknin from her were deplorable.
Osiris, a male yellow phase, reduced pattern conda....he was by far the worst of the rescue group. He tiny for his age (what the woman told me anyway). He also looked dull and was lethargic. To make matters worse, he had such a severe case of pneumonia (diagnosed by an exotics specialist) the vet didn't even think he would make it. Took a month and a half of injections and high heat, but against all odds, this little guy made it! He is now the largest of my male hoggies and hillarious. He is going through a serious phase of hating everything and everyone. If I look at his tank the wtong way he puffs up and hisses. Feeding time? Pifft...also funny. He throws SUCH a fit when I go in and refuses to eat off the tongs. But leave him alone for 5 minutes and he has inhaled 2 fuzzies.

Re: Mink's Hoggies
Ra, an extrem eed albino male. He got lost the same day I picked him up from the lady. I swore he had gotten loose outside when I put his bag down onthe ground, and prayed he wasn't in the house since I am a naughy Mink and was sneaking them in without mom knowing...so my fear was her finding him loose or my demon cat Remmington who would only just loooove a nice little noodle snack. Oddly enough...he was lost in the car, which I found out a week later while chilling in the car before work. Out of nowhere this bright little buggerwas slithering over the radio knobs. So, he got to spend the day in a metal deinking bottle on my desk....it was the only thing I had that I could safely keep him in. He didn't seem to mind since he ended up eating a pinkythat same night. He is just as hissy as Osiris, but less shy when it comes to feeding. He hisses at it first, then goes "what the heck!" And attacks it lol.
Emma, a yellow phase normal female. Her condition was simply underfed and severely dehydrated. She slammed down a large mouse the same night I brought her home and ate farely well for a while then randomly went off food. She is now back on and has a CRAZY feeding response. The last time I fed her she about launched herself outof her tub...twice! Other than that though, she is very easy going and a favorite for others to hold. She is the largest female I have at the moment. When I got her, her skales all were dull and looked flakey. Months later she has a nice shine and is in her first blue since I've had her! Very excited to see whats under the old skin. She was not feeling photogenic while in deep blue and in fact showed me her hissy side today for the first time ever. So I only have thos ine pic of her.
Ms.Hiss....needs a new name. Thinking od something citrus related since she has some of the most beautiful lemony yellow, tangerine orange, and pink grapefrute pinks! Sadly the pink never shows up on camera....Now, this lady was QUITE the doozy. When I went to pick her up, she was hissing, striking, puffed up with a full hood, and musked all over yer previous owner and in her tank. According to the woman she had always been that way and was so bad thatvshe struck the glass if anyone walked by. Everyone in hwr whole house was terrified of this snake (with good reason it would seem). Even I was apprehensive of taking on such an angry thing. But I did because it was either that, or leave her in the sad care of the previous owner. Boy am Inhappy I got her though! She settled down pretty quickly. Never did she strike or musk me, and after about 2-3 weeks of settling in she stopped hissing and striking the glass. Now, months later, she is a content, easy to handle lady who doesn't even hiss at me (but she will seriously make a fuss at her food lol). Other than her bad attitude in the begining however, she was actually pretty healthy with a minor RI (which they all had and all are better).
I also have a temporary rescue who I am working on getting to eat. She has not taken a meal on her own since February. ....thebowner got tired of force feeding her mouse tails, so I will be offering what I can to get her to take some meals on her own. No name as of yet, but wish me luck.... (note, she is in a large kritter keeper, so she is very tiny!)

Re: Mink's Hoggies
You are linking to the Imgur page, not the image itself. You can right click on the image and select "Copy Image URL"
Basically, just add .jpg to the end of all your image URLs.

Re: Mink's Hoggies
I fixed your links by adding ".png" to the end of the URLs (imgur hosts images as png not jpeg).
Imgur usually gives you a list of links on the righthand side of your uploaded picture. Link to the page, direct link to the image, bbcode link for forums
and html markup too I think.
Lovely hoggies!
