Crickets (keeping them ALIVE)

The pet store nearby has sold and will eventually be moving. I need to know how to keep crickets alive. I usually will put them in a rubber maid container and some egg carton. Sprinkle some gold fish food (the cricks love it) and a wet paper towel for their drink. However after a few days they all die on me. I don't know where they were ordered from. I do know that they are the non chirping kind. If anyone can give me advice I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thank you

I suggest that you feed the lizards to your husband's Mangrove Akula. Besides, they are just lizards.

Being that YOU (Lasher) are my husband I suggest that you leave my Bearded dragons be, or you may be sleeping in the cage with the snake!

Hi,
I put my crix on pine shavings and feed them veggies, as they are full of water. Very few of my crix die. Do you feed them mealies? They are cheeper, easier to keep alive, and the beardies love them!
We breed our own mealworms, this way we can pick out smaller and freshly shed worms to feed to our dragons.

I also prefer mealworms and breed and hand-pick my own.

Crickets fed a high protein diet are known to die young. The "non-chipring kind" - are you sure they're just not immature? Crickets have to be pretty big before they'll sing.

I feed my insects chicken laying mash, which I buy at the farmer's supply. It is complete nutrition + substrate and it's not too high in protein. I also give them veggies/fruit for water.

Also I bet pound for pound fish food is quite expensive to feed bugs! Check your protein levels.

Wink Thank you

Thank you! I never thought of fruits. I've heard of potatoes but that didn't seem to work very well. As for the fish food, you can buy a large goldfish container for nearly nothing.

Thank you to so much for the advice. I'll try that.

make sure you have egg carton chuncks in there, feed them lots if you keep alot at a time (1000 or so) you can try oranges for water and potatos work good too. other than that keep them warm (70-75) and dry, crix are stupid. GL.
