advice on diy enclosure size and animal possibilities

Okay so Im debating with making a 4x4x2 cage. I have the materials on hand.


I dont really have anything to put in that size cage except maybe the rainbow boa(but think that would probably be a waste of space) . So Im thinking of getting either a coastal carpet or a lizard of some type for the larger cage.
It would be in a cool basement so nothing too sensitive, although I can insulate the cage, the large acrylic front will let a certain amount of heat escape.

Im thinking water dragon. I have a drain in the floor of the basement so making a large water feature that could be drained and refilled would be easy.
I dont like getting wild caught animals though and dont think anyone sells cb water dragons.
Maybe something like lacertas but dont think they would utilize the height much.

Any suggestions on animals I could research for a cage this size?

Why not go 4x2x4 or 2x2x6 and get a arboreal species of snake or maybe a colony of anoles? That's just me talking out of my wants lol

You could make a tall cage, fill it with plants and vines and put a few crested geckos in it, most people would keep a gecko in a 10 gallon aquarium, so imagine the blast the little guys would have in a 4 foot cage , that's what I would do lol if your looking for a larger reptile you could go with a carpet python, most could live their entire life in a 4 ft cage

I do like the idea of crested geckos.I could split the cage and make two out of it.
Ive realized the water dragon would be a bit tight in a 4x4, but I could make it a bit taller.
Ive always wanted a colony of anoles in one of my 40 gallons but could never figure out how to open the screen lid without them all escaping(lol).
I do want some type of lizard/gecko.
It will be awhile before I get anything done so maybe this Sept. when the reptile expo comes around I will know what to look for.

Basement might work for snakes and lizards that need a cool period really well. I don't know where you live, but I am in the frigid north part of the country and mine gets like 40 here lol I suspect a basement might hold heat pretty well too though since the air doesn't turn over a lot, so if you're really set on something tropical and willing to heat the basement or if you live in the deep south, it might not matter too much anyway

Ive only been here a few months so dont know how the basement will be with heat. The heater is down there and there is a finished room with a heater vent as well.
I do have insulation, Im still thinking and weighing my options.
