The reflection in his eye is pretty cool.

Haha, yes, all my efforts to stay out of photographs are thwarted by reflections in Loki's eyes.

Re: He's here! At long last, my Eastern Indigo.
so, eminart.....i didn't read the entire thread, but i have a question...is the poo really as bad as i've read about?
years ago, i had a BTC, that was a prolific poo-er. i was in like 6th or 7th grade at the time. it was an import, and was heavily parasitized. the vet care back then was very "limited" at best. dosing this guy w anti-helminthics was a best-guess scenario. poor thing ended up dying about 6 weeks after i got him from local pet store (this was back in the late 70's btw)...
anyway, i never really knew if his poo issues were parasite related (i'm sure to a degree?) or also just part of the Drymarchon metabolism that you read about....
just wondering. thanks for any info...

It's really not that bad, it just comes a lot more often than it does with other snakes. Right now, Loki is eating a weanling rat every 3 days. Three days after I feed him, like clockwork, he comes out in the afternoon/early evening, poops, and expects another meal. I know when it's coming, so it gets cleaned up quickly.
Also, most people keep them on newspaper. I think that probably adds to the messiness, as they cruise around and smear poop everywhere. I use sanichips. There's very little mess. Just scoop out the area and it's good to go.
But, so far, I've fed him 95% rodents. I've heard the poop is worse with some other things (fish, snakes, frogs, etc). I really do want to vary his diet more, so that might affect things a bit. I'm working on a plan to get some fish, snakes, and maybe some frog legs and lizards to feed him.
The internal parasites in your BTC's probably had a lot to do with their smelly poop. Any time one of my hawks has a load of worms, the poop gets pretty rank.

I thought about getting a pair of BTC's to breed as well. I think they're awesome-looking snakes. And they're not nearly as costly as indigos, so buying two is a bit more feasible. My thing is just that these snakes require fairly large enclosures, and I don't have much room. Oh, and a lot of food. I'm going to have to get a second job to feed Loki.

I'm trying not to drool over here! To me there's no snake that's more majestic than an Eastern Indigo. Loki is a beautiful example Em.

Does he have brown markings on him or is that just the reflection?

He has the reddish face, and throat, along with the first 1/3 of his underbelly. Anything else you see is probably a reflection or something.
