Retics are notorious for going through gradual color shifts during a normal shed cycle. Mine typically look best just after shedding and in the evenings. They can go from a muddy brown to having bright silvers and greens.
Dark (not in shed, maybe getting close but she was still a few weeks out):

She's beautiful Kyle. I've been using a coat hanger for some time now but my hook finally got here today so once he sheds I'm going to start calming him down, hopefully...

Thanks. Keep us posted and be sure to ask questions. I'm out of town tomorrow through Tuesday but I'll try and pop on. There's plenty of other people that have hook experience too!

Will do! He's pretty feisty so far, He just kept sliding off the coat hanger hook and I think that gives him more time to get defensive. I'm not worried about getting bitten, my problem is that I don't want to take him out because I'm worried about him flying out of my hands and getting lost.

SDs are very active and can be flighty, so even with a hook it's still something you'll have to work with. They typically calm down with age though. All of mine have calmed down when they get to be around 18 months old.

Gorgeous retic! He's the exact opposite of my girl, though. She's as docile as my boa constrictor, although a little touchy/twitchy if she doesn't expect being touched and quite a bit faster than my other boids, as well as more determined to get into things. Not feisty in the least.
I have yet to see mine fired up, though, is that more normal for the dwarf/SD locales? :/ She just shed but I haven't noticed much of a change, other than the normal shed cycle dulling and brightening right after shed I see in all my other snakes in the 2 weeks I've had her. She always has the same bright pumpkin orange and silver sides.

Big snake girl... All retics "fire up". It is more noticeable in the dwarves as their colors are more "dull"(hard to use that word to describe any retic). I notice the color change most in my jamps. Their sides go from a brownish to a nearly white silver. The mainlands I have(bali yellowheads) would be less noticeable if it weren't for their heads. I notice the fire up most while they're digesting a meal.
Adrian.... Is the little guy starting to calm down at all?
