If you all haven't already watched snakebytes before, I highly recommend it. You can find it on animalbytes tv on YouTube. New episode every Wednesday.

Re: Snake Ban : Snakebytestv
Really good show, as far as the snake ban its sucks. I live in Florida and all you hear is that all burmese, rock and retics are man eaters. My sister works for the FWC she does the python control in the everglades. They pay for them to go out there for countless hours to capture them. In a week of searching they might find one or two snakes. It is sad that people who were irresponsible have ruined the reputation of those snakes. I own a bci, which is as large of snake I can support at this time in my life, but I love burms and retics. The first time I saw 18 foot retic that a friend of my dad owned, it was like dinosaurs still existed (12 years old at the time).

Re: Snake Ban : Snakebytestv
This is incredibly sad and frankly pisses me off. This prohibits people for caring for these animals, ensuring their survival, and keeping the education alive. Were going to back USARK and BHB 110% on this. It wont be a short process, but together we can reverse this and prevent these stereotypes from ruining our hobby and deep care for these animals.
Its time for us to unite and show our strength against these people looking to kill our livelyhood and our passion for these animals.

Our BCI's were barely spared this time.
Reticulated Python, 3 Anacondas added to Injurious Species List as Boa Constrictor is Spared

Re: Snake Ban : Snakebytestv
If we don't reverse this now it's inevitable that more species will be added. Animal rights extremists are dedicated the ending the ownership of all pets and will continue to lobby for more bans using any and every reason they can come up with.
IMO the most important things we can do is get any and every pet owner to stop donating to HSUS. Many pet owners do this because they think HSUS spends the money running local shelters rather than lobbying for anti-pet laws. Second is to make it a never ending fight everytime they try to ban something, we must never back down or give up no matter how small the regulation as that only leads to more regulations.
By the way, they are going after salamanders next and they will likely be on the lacey act soon, so this is going to effect more than just big snake owners. No one is safe, all they have to do is pay someone to type up a report saying anacondas will spread to Alaska or whatever.

Good points. I would add it's just as important to donate to USARK.

Re: Snake Ban : Snakebytestv
Two more sigs by my wife and myself.
Spread this around, people. Even if you don't keep these animals (we don't), sign it. The day your species is on the Lacey act is the day you'll be begging for support from people who don't keep your species. Lets all help each other in this hobby.

Re: Snake Ban : Snakebytestv
I don't think we broke 20,000 signatures on the last petition, and that was when we only needed 25,000 IIRC. USARK already has a lawsuit in the works, if you want to donate make sure you specify that it's for the defense fund. This is a huge blow to me because as of March 29th I will only have reticulated pythons.
