Poisonous Snakes

I was pretty amazed when i read this article. I was always correcting people that snakes are venomous and not poisonous. I guess i was partially wrong.

He's still correct. Snakes are venomous not poisonous. When talking to the general public just leave out the "well technically they are both. There's one obscure, Japanese species that has developed a poison so by all accounts it depends on which species you're talking about."

Easier to say venomous and not poisonous.

I disagree. If someone refers to, for example, a rattlesnake as poisonous, I'll correct them and explain that they are venomous. Then I'll explain how a very small number (one, maybe two?) are poisonous. Then I'll explain the difference. Why not educate instead of dumbing it down?

It's easier to understand for the general public. Especially for most people since they never will learn or need to know about the one obscure poisonous snake in Japan.

You say maybe two. Do you know of another one?

What snakes are venomous/poisonous?
I've got to do more research to confirm this. As I said I'm not positive on the second species. But I've heard from several sources that some garters are in fact poisonous as well, due to their diet. I'll keep looking, but in the mean time take this with a grain of salt.

There's a guy from Thailand that I follow on Instagram. He owns a Red-Necked Keelback (Rhabdophis subminiatus) which is closely related to the snake in your article. Only person I know of that has one as a pet. Red-Necked Keelbacks are both poisonous and venomous.

This is why I keep to myself most of the time. I generally only step out in public to fight the politicians at the council meetings.

Lol, you guys are right! It appears the article describes a hypothesis about a certain species being poisonous. A single university study done with a tiny amount of animals is hardly a scientific fact. The control groups as well as placebo groups are laughable. The info they got supports a theory. Hopefully in years to come there is more research done with this particular species.
