wood enclosures Toronto Ontario

Hi Everyone
It's been a few months, but I thought I'd write for some enclosure opinions.
Our youngest ball recently outgrew his hides, so we needed to buy some new ones at the last show. Unfortunately the next size up was quite a jump and it means that his 2 hides just barely fit in his tank. We've even had to put his waterbowl ontop of one of them because they're so squishy. I see a lot of people have just one hide, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, since it only gives them somewhere safe to be on one side of the enclosure.
Either way, we are talking about upgrading his 30 gallon to a 40 in the near future (size wise). I really thought a 30 would be all he needs, but he really needs more space.

He is currently in a glass tank with 3 sides blocked off, tinfoil on top of the lid and a thermostat. It keeps the heat and moisture in ok, but I would like to upgrade his tank to something more appropriate, especially if we're going to put the money out to get him something new anyway.

I would prefer a wooden enclosure, as I think they are more attractive than the PVC's. We don't have a lot of money, so I was considering making one myself. Only problem is we live in an apartment. We just moved there, and have quite a nice sized balcony, so I think I could pull something off if the pieces were pre-cut.

Was wondering if there were any lazy man's nice enclosures to buy in Ontario that I could explore, or if you have any advice on making your first tank. Also, I noticed on the one set of instructions I found for a melamine enclosure that the boards are 3/4" thick...do you think a 5/8" thick piece would work just as well? you can get some fake wood looking melamine or plywood at that thickness, but the 3/4" is harder to find. I just think something that looks like wood is nicer than the white melamine.

Thanks a bunch!
