I wonder...

Is it OK to feed my snakes 2 different types prey items in a feeding. For example can I offer a rat weanling followed up by a chick? Or should they be fed just one type of prey per feeding? Any thoughts?

Re: I wonder...

I wouldn't think it would be an issue as long as both prey items don't weigh more than one appropriately sized item, but I don't have any experience with that so I'd let someone more experienced give their input.

That's what I was thinking too Adrian. The total combined weight would be equal to one appropriately sized prey item. Thanks for the input.

Re: I wonder...

You could also feed one appropriately sized item at one feeding, then next feeding you could do a different appropriately sized item, so that way you still add variety but only have to feed one prey at a time. Just a thought

Re: I wonder...

Bummer...Oh well, that didn't quite go as planned. I took out one mouse and a chick and none of my (3) critters ate. In all fairness, the kings have both been feeding pretty irregularly lately and this was also my first time trying chicks with any of the snakes, but now my bull seems to only want rats and passed on both the mouse and the chick. At least Apollo ate his 2 rat pinks. I'll try the others again in 5-7 days. I hate it when my snakes aren't eating regularly

Re: I wonder...

Yes. I have done it. I know others will do it when trying to get a snake to switch from mice to rats or rats to rabbits/guinea pigs/etc.

Re: I wonder...

i don't see there being a problem other than the snake may prefer one type of prey over the other, then refuse to take one of them

that said ive seen plenty snakes that will eat anything you offer them

cheers shaun

Re: I wonder...

I want to feed them a diverse diet but my kings seem to only want mice and my bulls only want rats. Nobody has taken a chick yet but I'll keep trying.
