Wooden Terrarium

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with wooden terrariums?
They are very common here and supposedly ideal for dry climate loving snakes.

Example: Holz Terrarium Holzterrarium Terrarien Holzterrarien Seitenbelüftung Reptil | eBay

Re: Wooden Terrarium

The can make great cages if set correct. Make sure to water seal the inside or they won't last long.

Re: Wooden Terrarium

You wouldn't want to use that being its made from particle board, nothing wrong with wooden enclosures as long as there out of a hard wood and sealed right

Re: Wooden Terrarium

The OSB shown is available rated for exterior use. It would still need to be sealed but should hold up quite well if done properly.
I would research the resins etc used in those materials to determine if it is safe to use for reptiles.

I like wood enclosures, they have "personality"!

What particular problems does particle board have?

Everyone, what would I use for sealing it?

And I will search up the materials further to make sure they didn't use pine.

Yes, I like that about them too and I was hoping to use some non toxic paint on it. Not sure if the inside can be painted, but I have seen some with a natural them like rocks and plants on the wall.

Re: Wooden Terrarium

Well technically if it's sealed right there's nothing wrong with partical board but I'm guessing it's not sealed, I'd use some sort of urethane to seal it, secondly partical board is heavy as hell but if you don't mind that by all means go ahead and buy it

Re: Wooden Terrarium

They look nice and as long as they're sealed properly them there shouldn't be any problems with using them. Like jpsteele said, they're going to be heavy being that they're made of particle board.

Re: Wooden Terrarium

Particle broad not as strong as regular plywood but heavier. Meaning it breaks easier. Plus if it does get wet or moisture particle broad will fall apart super easy.
