Golden geckos?

What's the care of a golden gecko like? I'm going to look for some caresheets but would rather get some info from people who keep them. I have experience with leopards and cresties so if anyone can relate it to one or the other..I found some places where they are kept arboreal and some not..

Re: Golden geckos?

Thank you I picked up an 8 year old that someone was rehoming. He used to have about 100 reptiles that he was breeding..he said he gave up on it and that this little guy was being neglected recently..

He's in a 5 gallon tank with basically nothing in it other than two dirty bowls. No branches, no leaves to hide in or anything. The owner also told me that he escaped not long ago and the cats were getting at him..he's been feeding it repashy. Is repashy bad for them on occasion? I'll of course feed him gut-loaded crickets and mealies and all of that as his main diet.

They are arboreal. so you will need a bigger, taller tank. i feed mine crickets, mealworm(occasionally), silkworms, hornworms, and sometimes earthworms. i dust the feeders with calcium every time i feed mine. and about once a week ill thhrow in some d3. mine stays a bright yellow all the time. Mine only gets dark if i have to cleann her tank. i also have a water dish with a sponge in it to keep humidity up annd i gave mine a heat lamp.

Re: Golden geckos?

Thanks for the info She's in a 10 gallon for now, of course an arboreal one, I'll get her into a larger tank very soon but for now this will do as she's on the smaller side.

Is it normal she can't stick to glass? It seems she has no suction on her feet. Unless they're different from cresteds. She had a hard time gripping the glass and then even a branch.

Re: Golden geckos?

She just shed last night so I'll have a look if she has any better grip today, if anything I'll research about it or call up my vet.

She is eight years old, I'm not sure if her growth is stunted either or if she's normal size as she was only fed repashy forever. And there's possibility that she was bred since the guy was a breeder. She's 7 inches head to tail.

Re: Golden geckos?

that seems a bit on the small side, unless i am mis-remembering my brothers golden geckos. Also his did not have any stripes, they were a solid pale gold (variable depending on mood and time of day), so it could be you have a different locality or something (didn't you post a picture of her, and she had some stripes?)?

ours were fed heavy on the crickets, light on formulated diets.

My day gecko would sometimes have trouble sticking to the ways if he was handled excessively; it could be an artifact from being kept in a dirty cage, maybe having shed she will do better? others i would start looking at her nutrition and make sure she is getting high quality feeder insects and repashy formula.
