School Talk With The Gang Today
Today I did a talk about snakes at my boys school for his class (5 & 6 year olds). I'd been crapping myself for weeks about doing it but I am glad to say they loved it
I took three snakes in and I'm really pleased that every child stroked our ball python, no one shied away, they all thought she and the small Boa were great. They weren't so sure about the dwarf retic though
If anyone gets the chance to do the same with their kids at school then go for it. To see the interest and looks on their faces was awesome. Even the teaching staff were impressed and offered up lots of questions in a language the little ones could understand.
Sorry, but just had to share as my boy felt a million bucks to see his Daddy in class giving a talk about snakes, he was so proud telling everyone the ball python was his snake

Re: School Talk With The Gang Today
Thanks all Yes it was very nerve racking but it didn't take long to forget about the nerves, especially when the kids found out the talk was about snakes. The teachers didn't let on, and we didn't tell our boy so you can imagine the look on his face when Mum and Dad were the guest talkers with our snakes

Great job. Be careful it becomes addicting. That is how I started out and now, 33 years later, I do educational shows all over 3 states and run a snake rescue and adoption org.

Have done this for preschoolers and six year olds. It is scary but great fun!

Re: School Talk With The Gang Today
I took 5 snakes (2 adult boas, adult male JCP, albino gopher and a king) to my kids class one day and 3 other classrooms all piled in to see the snakes. It was a blast for me as much as the kids.

Re: School Talk With The Gang Today
I know the kids must love it, but how do the teachers/adults handle it? It's funny how adults can be more afraid of snakes than kids sometimes.

School shows are down. because if the principle or teachers are afraid of snakes, then you can't even get in the school.

Yes it's funny being in education, sometimes it's the adults that need educating!

Re: School Talk With The Gang Today
One of the teachers at my daughters school was very afraid, warned me before hand and asked if it was okay for her to stay at the back of the classroom as from there she could contrl her fear and didnt want any of the kids to pick up on it.
She was visibly scared of the snakes but when we got our Ackie out she was really interested and ended up holding him.

Re: School Talk With The Gang Today
I love hearing stories like this. Hopefully these kids will grow up knowing snakes aren't bad creatures.
