Just want to show the new herpers that you can't really know unless you know the lineage.

I'll reveal the answers after several guesses. These may or may not be hybrids/intergrades

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Re: Carpet Python guessing game

I was thinking the same (I know I'm wrong, because I am new to carpets and they are pretty impossible to guess) but the way it is perched suggests GTP or ETB...and the #3 pic was based on coloring in my guess...but any combo can throw any colors and patterns...I have seen pics of IJ's that look jungle, etc...

Good guesses, but to point it out there, pretty much all carpets perch like that. Coloring is a bit iffy with jungles/coastals. Since many carpets go through ontogenesis(change in coloring with age), you will find many jungles that are grey/white/brown as babies and turn neon yellow as adults.

Re: Carpet Python guessing game

What a fun game! They all look like some variation of JCPs to me. #2 and #4 are perhaps of the zebra variety? I'm fairly new to my interest in carpets as well. But I'd really like to own number 2 or 4 lol.

#2 is zebra for sure, and #4 is not zebra. You owned one lol. Can you guess what subspecies they are?

Haha, no clue. I'm tapped out; that was the extent of my guessing. But no I want a carpet pretty bad lol. All these pictures lately are killing me.

mine has always perched in "hunt" mode, I guess..LOL...she seems like a super hungry girl! She is in full blue right now, so hasn't budged from her hide in 2 days

Re: Carpet Python guessing game

This would be like trying to sex them from the pics. Very difficult if not impossible other than the obvious Zebra BUT!! The asymmetrical head pattern on #5 is very cool.

Yup that's the point I'm trying to make with this thread. I just see people posting their snakes all the time asking " What kind of carpet is this?".

I guess it's the word that makes people less appreciative of them. A better word would be wild-type because after a while, a new morph becomes "normal" when everyone has one.

Re: Carpet Python guessing game

so true there is so much variation in the "normals" of any species that all of them are beautiful...not enough appreciation for the origins of the animals...sorry..done hijacking! carry on, I am anxious to see these results!
