Wild rat breaks into a lacey cage. Always impressed by their speed and agility

Re: Damn... Monitor hunting skills

they are awsome hunters, bbc did a short bit on Savs catching mice in the wild, there is also research into the possibility that hunting should be an integral part of enrichment for captive animals

nice clean, fast kill, shows a highly efficient predator.

Re: Damn... Monitor hunting skills

My guess is that the rat had about 1/4 of a second to realize that he had snuck into the wrong place. That speed and those hunting skills are why lizards have been around for the past 100+ million years. Great video showing how those animals survive in the wild.

I think it was called Hidden Kingdoms, first episode - the documentary was from the point of view of the mouse, not the Sav, some awsome shots of them

You can hear the monitor slam the rat against the wall at around 00:06. MMA fighters of the lizard world.

I edited out the two minutes with the monitor footage and youtube blocked it for copyright violation.

The heavy footsteps and Jurassic park like growls were a bit over the top, but the whole sequence was pretty cool to see, Narrated by Stephen Fry as an added bonus.

Here is the official ad...

Re: Damn... Monitor hunting skills

so anyway, that is an elephant shrew, or sengi.... From what I have been learning, common monitor food in the Savannah plains.

A similar sequence is included on the BBC "Life" box set, but it's on the mammals DVD not the reptiles.
