I, too, am rather surprised at the "damage". I didn't think the chahoua were that bitey. Now had it been a tokay, I would not have been the least bit surprised. (Or should that be the least "bite" surprised?  ) Tokays be vicious bastards. (Not to be confused with "viscous bastards".)
