Settling down nicely.

It really amazes me how much an animal can change in a month or two. When I first got my grey rat snake, he was terrified of everything. After about 2 1/2 months, he seems to be adjusting really well. He's getting used to my presence and doesn't run away at the sight of my hands. He also seems to be relaxing when it comes to handling. I only handle him about twice a week for sessions of about 5-10 minutes, but he's coming around quickly. He crawls through my fingers and up my arms and he's becoming okay with me actually touching/grabbing him.

All in all, I'm very happy with how relaxed he's becoming. I don't want to jinx it, but he has the makings of a snake with a really good temperament.

Awesome. Thats when they start showing interesting behaviour such as roaming around without minding you observe them. My jungle would hide for the first few months but nowadays i see her explore much more often. Its interesting to see

I posted a few pics on him in this thread. They aren't the best, so I'll try to get a few more in a day or so. So far, he has been a pretty cool snake. He likes to climb a lot spends a fair amount of his time in the top of his tub.

Baby rat snake's eyes always get me. They're so big compared to their head lol. Nice snake.

Re: Settling down nicely.

I few minutes ago, I was checking on the little guy guy to see if he was up to anything. When I look in his tub, I see him draped over one of the suspended cardboard tubes, with his head hanging a couple of inches above the top of the bedding. He was completely motionless, with neck coil back in an "S" position. To me, it looked like he was in position to ambush something from above. I wanted to get a picture, but there is to much glare on the outside of the tub.

I thought you might find my little story interesting either way though.
