Quality of mice/rats
So I just want to really throw this out there. I just now recently got mice from the reptile expo the other week, 2 weeks ago I think. But I one cant believe how cheaper they were but also it seems like it has had a drastic impact on my snakes feeding response. For anyone that is buying pinkies or fuzzies from retail petstores, stop.
My hondo went off and on for food taking a two week break 2 times, ever since I picked up fuzzys from the reptile expo, those little fuzzies dont last long at all, she looks right at it and grabs it, faster than my boa infact.
Just want to say BUY FROM REAL RAT/MOUSE SELLERS!!!!

Re: Quality of mice/rats
I didn't think so either until I did some searching, discovered two about an hour- 2 hours from me. If it's big enough make a trip for it, they are great fun!

Re: Quality of mice/rats
I bought rat pups from the last Repticon in Orlando and man...I do agree with you 100%. My corn goes absolutely NUTS. Her feeding response is really great with these rats.

Re: Quality of mice/rats
I notice a greater feeding response with the rodents I raise myself...I like not having to drive an hour and a half round trip to get mushy mice...haven't tried the frozen rats from petco, but started to breed mmy own anyway just due to the cost...

Re: Quality of mice/rats
I got some rats from a couple repticons ago, have t noticed any difference in anything other than they were like twice the price of the rats I usually get. Although I did get some feeder chicks pretty cheap to supliment my retics diet with.

Re: Quality of mice/rats
I have always gotten my feeders at expos, if you have multiple snakes (or adults that can consistently eat a single prey-size), but not enough to worry about the cat of shipping, i find expo prices significantly better than any shops in my area.
I will say however that i was pretty disappointed with the last bunch of rats i got (my first time buying rats at expo, all my other snakes eat mice), as they were very expensive and when i thawed them out in water i noticed that they had lice :/
not a big deal for the snakes, but could potentially carry parasites (though unlikely) and signifies that maybe the rats weren't kept in the best conditions... though otherwise i have found my expo feeders to be superior quality to those from private shops; less freezer burn, packaged very economically etc
