Tegu loves beetles

Just another observation for the past while. My sav would never eat the super worm beetles, he's eat the worms but never the beetle. There are a few hundred crawling in his cage to help clean up but getting out of hand. Never seen him eat one, when he was little he tried and spat it right out.

I put lots of super worms in both my sav's and tegu's cage for food and cleanup crew and I was wondering why there are no beetles in the tegu's cage ever. Anyways, I scooped up a cup of beetles from the sav's cage and dumped it in the tegu's cage and the tegu went crazy and ate them all.

Now I know why there's no beetles in the tegu's cage. He's much better at pest control when it comes to beetles, but then he breaks the life cycle I am trying to create in his environment for the cleaning crew haha...

Also the tegu would dig deep into the soil all day long hunting for food, I'm not sure why the sav would rarely dig to find food. He only does that if the food is in sight or not deep down.... Is that normal?

Hi, if you normally feed items on the surface the monitor may not need to dig too much, also, unless it`s thought to be a worthwhile meal they probably won`t put too much effort into digging deeply (no advantage in expending more energy than the item contains).

Maybe since it was a baby I didn't require him to dig for food so he just expects food above ground.... But the tegu seems to just do it instinctively. I guess they are from 2 different worlds..
