i would feed any prey a snake would take...

i have always wanted to keep a Black Headed Python,to eat any unwanted hatchlings i may produce,that way the market don't get flooded with cheap siblings,that any unexperienced people could buy and throw away when they get bored,due to how cheap the snake was bought...

imo its much more humaine to feed them to a BHP (most BHP's will only take live snakes)

it's mother nature at her best imo

Of course baby ducks and chicks are cute, so are most baby animals. Only difference I see between them and rodents is they grow into something I would eat when they get big enough. Not gonna eat rodents unless thing get really desperate. Like, apocalyptic, end-of -the-world desperate, lol.

When I was about 10 years old, I fed a pair of small hamsters to my ball python. There was a severe rat and mouse shortage in the city at the time because the main supplier of rats and mice for the area had to do a massive cull due to disease. So when I saw somebody selling baby hamsters in my building for fifty cents a pop, I jumped on the opportunity.

I adore my mice, but I wouldn't deny my snake a meal just because I love them so much. I just make sure the few that end up feeders have wonderful lives with me.
I too love chickens, but I still eat chicken.

I like to know that the animals I feed to my snakes died as painlessly as possible, and I'll always ask how the animals are killed (avoiding frozen alive, drowned, ect.)
If I loved a snake that only ate live I'd still do it...
I have 3 pet chickens and I love their personalities and all their pecking and scratching, but I'd have no problem having frozen chicks in my freezer.

I have never fed a cat or a dog to any of my snakes, but if they are in over filled kill shelters, then why waste the meat.

Duck is probably my favorite meat on the planet, i'd rather let them grow and keep them for my plate than being fed to my animals!

but anyway, there is no animal I wouldnt feed to mine, if its something they would eat anyway, not squeamish or ethically inclined in that way at all. That said, duck isnt cheap, they certainly wouldnt get it often lol

I have a duck farm near me that only raises the ducks for their livers. They would give me the rest of the duck for free. Also many times they raise to many ducks and give away what they can not use.

Objectively I don't see anything wrong with it but I personally wouldn't do it. Dogs and cats are too personable.

I'd not feed dogs, just cause i like them. Cats as well.

Live feeding, in my eyes, of a dog or cat is just too cruel. A dead, euthanised one, however, is another story if you feel like doing it.

My only concern would be- what would this make people think of the hobby? if it's dead it's dead, but people are fearmongers, and would use this as leverage against our right to keeping snakes.

EDIT: and by right, i mean current right. Not including bylaws in areas where it is already illegal.

It's a cultural thing. In most if not all developed countries, dogs and cats are on the top of the pet chain and as such, it isn't culturally acceptable to feed them off to a snake or lizard. Setting culture aside, I still would not feed off a dog or cat to any of my snakes. While I personally have no other aversion, I mainly stick with 1 of 4 different prey animals depending on snake size; mice, rats, rabbits and pigs. The other prey animals, if someone chooses to feed off to their snakes or lizards, if said animal can take them, I have no problem with it at all.

You guys are all going off the deep end of the crazy scale here. You would actually feed a cat or dog to your reptile? I don't care if the cat or dog has already been euthanized. People consider cats and dogs to be part of their family. Would you feed your dead nephew to your reticulated python? What does it matter? He's already dead, right? Why give him a proper burial? Mr. Fuzzles the python is hungry!
