Snake owners on Craigslist

So I was originally searching for places to buy snake supplies for (very) cheap but ended up going onto Craigslist looking at snakes for sale. Life of a teenage herper. But a lot of these owners obviously have pictures of their snakes and their enclosures and some are in some bad enclosures. There was one that looked like it was in a too small tank (maybe 15 gal. for a 1 /12 year old rtb) with what looked like patterned towels. One hide and one water dish and that was all (plus what looked like a heat lamp) which I understand the hide and dish are okay for a snake that doesn't like to hide much or anything, but I didn't see a thermostat or any sort of temperature gauge. I also saw one that was in a properly sized tank and everything but it looked like it was on ferret pellet bedding or something. Is there anything like that for snake use? I'm just curious if this stuff is okay or not...still pretty new to this. But then there was what seemed like an awesome snake owner who HAD to get rid of his 8' RTB since he's moving. He seems as if he cares about his snake, since he said that he would much rather sell his snake to someone who has experience with reptiles and such. I just don't understand why some people buy a snake or lizard or any pet if they don't intend on giving it the best they can give. Let me know if I'm just being close minded or something but there's my two cents :P

You're on craigslist... just shake your head at the ads and walk away.

Re: Snake owners on Craigslist

Craigslist is where you find people who say that they won't sell you their leopard gecko if you don't promise to handle him everyday and let him free roam because hes very affectionate. Where people say you need to keep his green iguana and columbian tegu in the same enclosure because they are besties <3. If you've only begun delving into the world of craigslist, you will see far worse than ferret pellets and towels for substrate.

I just saw an ad on fauna saying to handle the GTP they're selling daily to tame it down while in the color changing phase.

I just found an ad " Red-Tailed African boa". I click it and what do I see? A colombian bci.

Total agreement there. Lost faith in Craigslist long ago.

Re: Snake owners on Craigslist

There are rare occasions where you can find gems on CL, but they are few and far between.
