Shedding trouble

My new Guyana boa baby went throughout the cycle just fine once already but this time she only shed her head and didn't shed her body. Her body feels dry and wrinkly. The temps and humidity are normal. Hat should I do??

Re: Shedding trouble

if the shed is stuck, you can put her in a container with a little warm water and sit in a nice warm spot so she don't get cold, but make sure its not to deep where she in any danger of drowning and make sure you remember to add some air holes, after 30 min or so you will be able to gently help her shed off the water logged skin at this point, I have had to do it a few times in my life. works like a sharm. but make sure yo get your humidiy and heat dialed in for future shedding, some people use a box they can climb into with some moist peatmoss tho at shed time.

The only diddicult thing is helping her because she is extremely defensive

Re: Shedding trouble

Give her a nice warm bath with some olive oil in it. Just a bit. Her shed will slide right off. Let her soak for at least half an hour.

Re: Shedding trouble

If your shed is that bad your husbandry is off. Do the warm bath but never put oils or anything for that matter other than water on your snake.

No they're not. If they were, you would have had a perfect shed.
Increase your humidity.

Re: Shedding trouble

My little guy may be having a problem shed, too. His eyes went blue on Friday, hazy on Saturday, then clear on Sunday night. It's now Wednesday and he still hasn't shed. Temps are perfect and humidity is 10% higher than I'm supposed to keep him (at 70% right now). Is there anything wrong?

He's a 4 month old Dumeril's, if that makes any difference.

Re: Shedding trouble

Yes, your humidity should be higher. Have you done any research about the husbandry requirements of the animal you own?
This is frustrating.

Re: Shedding trouble

Quite a dang bit.

I have 80 posts in the last 2 weeks since I joined...

Dumerils Boa Care Sheet
40-60% humidity. At 70%, it should be fine for shedding.

Dumeril?s Boa Care Sheet
Same.

Dumerils Boa Care Sheet
Again.

Yes. I've researched ad nauseum.

it can take anything from 2 to 10 days after the eyes clear up for the snake to shed mate

Re: Shedding trouble

anyway, back to the original posters thread, you need to increase your humidity yes, i have a RTB and I have never had a problem with shedding, my humidity isn't perfect either but never had any isues. I usually spray her tank and humidity goes up to 80% the through the day into the next day it slowly goes down to around 50% then i spray again, never had any problems. You haven't givin any temps that anyone has asked for so what is your humidity at? and what are you using to measure it?

I agree about the rise is poor husbandry posts lately but I don'think this is the case here

At 70% his boa should shed fine. I know a bci is not quite the same but most will still shed fine at 60% .

↑ this is what I think is going on. Just wait. He will shed soon.

I'd be leary of any oil as it coats the skin and then the skin can't breath at all. I believe shaunyboy had a friend do this and his snake got severe water blisters

@ op

Your humidity may be fine for your day to day husbandry but it should be increased during a shed. What are you keeping it in?
