Thats my understanding, I had a few native thamnophis and neordia, they are totally legal as long as you dont get caught collecting them for your collection. You can buy them at expos, keep the info from the breeder you purchase them from and you're golden.

yeah it just makes too much sense, if its declining in the wild, why would you stop legal breeding in captivity to increase the population lol

Re: Reptile wish list!
We do have specific natives that are controlled, but as far as I know the only one that pops up in the ottawa/gatineau area thats controlled is the Massasauga rattlesnake..

Re: Reptile wish list!
Anything native is not allowed to be kept. Captive bred or otherwise. Other subspecies of garter snakes that are not native are allowed to be kept.

Facilities must have approval from the Minister of Natural Resources to keep or breed scheduled wildlife listed as game wildlife or specially protected wildlife (under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act) or a species with a status of endangered, threatened, or special concern under the federal Species at Risk Act or the provincial Species at Risk in Ontario List (see Related Links, below)..

This is from This Website, and is why I believe you can't own one in Ontario. Although I may be reading it wrong

Re: Reptile wish list!
Yes, and because you can't get approval for any reason other than maybe education or conservation it likely won't happen.

Assuming you did the minimum care needed for these animals, you better be ready to work 20+ hours a day :P
