Remember my juvenile ghost corn Jenelle?

Well, she escaped, and now she is desceased. I am distraught, is there anyone out there who can help me deal with it? I don't think I'll be getting another corn, maybe I should just stick with hampsters.

im sorry to here that, i will be upset if a loss draws you away from this hobby, i understand how you feel and everyone makes mistakes.

Corn snakes are positively notorious for figuring out a way to escape from any given enclosure. I know it is small consolation, but it is not your fault that they are so good at it.

Keep at it and before you get your next snake, talk about your caging plans here and we can help talk you through making it escape proof.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but I hope you stick with it. I lost my first corn snake too. Now I have 2 Corn snakes and a Ball Python. :w

That's too bad.

But if you enjoyed keeping a snake, give it at least one more try before you give up. Don't let one unfortunate incident keep you from doing something you love.

I have heard people finding their snakes after a few months. JUst try looking around and maybe one day it'll pop out! Don't give up.

Oh I do hope that you will not give up corn snakes. They are such beauties. For the 16 years that I have been keeping snakes I only had 7 escaped snakes. and out of that 7, I just didn't get to find 1 of them. So it's a 6/7 chance to find him (at least based on my experience...haha)

Try looking up, down, near walls, just everywhere! Cause they are artist at hiding!

we've had one corn die (our snow corn with the stub tail), unfortunetly it's something that happens. The best we can do is learn from each experiance. Learn how it escaped and prevent it from happening again. A corn snake can out live a hamster for a long time.

I am very sorry Izzie. My corn has escaped 3 times!! and each time was a heart breaker. The first time I was sure my cat had eaten him ( he sat on the lid and ripped the screen!!) But i didn't give up, and 3 full weeks later he just showed up on the floor! Don't give up just yet, and no matter what happens don't let this sour you on snakes, they are so worth the trouble.

Oh.. and if you havn't tryed this yet, put water near all your floor vents, and if you can put a mouse there too, the smell may attract him!

You haven't had a chance to say what you were using but I just wanted to add that from my little experience with tiny ones, the only lids that work are either the small screen lids that fit on the ledge and kinda snap in, or the rubbermaid tubs and even those can be questionable.

you could always try keeping a lizard if you dont get a snake. lizards find it much ahrder to disapear through tiny holes!

then maybe one day you'll get another snake!
my snake escaped the other day.......i turned my room upside down then i found him in one of my trouser pockets!!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. You can't give up though, you're just not allowd! This happens to the best of us. Keep your chin up and you'll be fine.

she had a screen lid, and I know that she is no longer with us because of our cats, there was evidence that she was eaten.

It is really hard to cope when you lose a pet. Unfortunately, when you have livestock, sometimes you have dead stock. Try to fix the set up so another escape can not happen like the first, then go get another corn snake. Learn from your mistake so the first snake did not die in vain. The new snake will not take the place of the first one, but having someone new to fuss over and worry about will help ease your loss and fill your time.
