cookie update

Well I went ahead and got cookie a 40 gallon zilla..she loves it..I was scared it was.gon be to much space for but she loves it..its.cold here in houston so her uth reads 88.3° & the cold side is at 70°..she has 2 water bowls..one on the cool side & one in the back close by the utg..her humidity is right at 60..my boys love holding her & she eats very well for me..here is an up to date pic I took last night while she was roaming..

My brain hurts from reading your post. Best I could extract from your post was your temps are too cold; 90-95 and 80-ish.

Glad you are teaching your kids to appreciate and not to be afraid of snakes.

Here's some advice to make your snake more comfortable. From what breeders and other BP owners have told me, 85 on the warm side is ok for hatchlings, but you need 90 - 95 for adults. 80, not 70, for the cool side. Pet store owners usually mislead people on how to care for animals, just hoping to make a buck.

I've learned it's wayy easier to maintain proper temps and humidity for these guys in tubs, not glass terrariums. Terrariums work for other snakes. Ball pythons need to have that safe 'enclosed' feeling, being surrounded by glass makes them stressed all the time (even if they don't look like it at first) since they feel they are out in the open. If you really want to keep him in the terrarium, give him more places to hide. More cover. Also paint the sides and back of the tank black (or cut appropriately sized black Bristol board and tape it to the sides and back if you don't want something permanent) This will make him feel safer and not so vulnerable. You see, in the wild they live in old burrows or termite mounds, so they are the opposite of claustrophobic.
