About To Shed!

Hannibal, my BP eyes are INSANELY blue, so she is about to shed... I was supposed to feed her tomorrow, but that wont be happening. My question is how long should I wait after she sheds to try to feed her?

Re: About To Shed!

After she's shed. Also, why the hell are you handling a snake that is deep in shed?
Lesson One: Don't handle a snakes when it is in shed!
It's a VERY stressful time for them and you pawing at it and making a fool of yourself in its presence is additional, unnecessary stress.
Common sense folks!!!

She should be hungry as soon as she sheds.

And yeah what mykee said, leave them alone if you can while they're in shed.

Re: About To Shed!

Only time I mess with my snakes when they are in shed is to clean any messes in their cages or in the case of big mama and has to go to vet every few days for antibiotic shots

Re: About To Shed!

I got home, grabbed her from my gf and put her up, she snapped the pic as I was grabbing her... I told her not to handle her during this time, but she is persistent that it does not matter. In her defense she does not seem stressed out, and she was relaxed and crawling all over her when I get home, but she is safely tucked away now.

Re: About To Shed!

I always say don't read tone in text, because you don't know their intended tone. But gosh Mykee, that read mean to me...I don't know how long Aaron has had a snake, but if he got it 52 posts ago he got it he might not know that. And based on him asking when he can feed after shed...Well, that screams amateur to me...Not trying to be rude, maybe I read it wrong?

I feed in blue as well, but not usually after they start to look "normal" again. This means the shed is imminent. The only time I go in their enclosure is to clean up waste, and in shed a lot of snakes will wait to go to the bathroom, so for the most part, as long as you have clean water, and decent humidity they are on auto pilot for 7-10....Wait a minute, wasn't one of my attractions to snakes that they are always on auto pilot?

Re: About To Shed!

Thanks, and I will. Don't worry, I didn't take Mykee's post offensively. But yes, I am new. I had a California King snake for a month, it bit my mom, ip-so-facto, I didn't have him for much longer after that lol

Good on you for inquiring as the best time to feed your snake it's obvious you want the best for it. Also digging the name!

Re: About To Shed!

I meant no offense to the OP (except maybe the part about common sense). I like to keep my posts terse and effectively concise, and many times that comes off as rude. Read it how you may, I'm not really concerned with how the tone of my posts are interpreted. Just get the point.

Fair enough no hard feelings, your delivery does hammer home your point.
