Frequent soaking?

90% of the time I check on the new baby girl, I find her soaking in her water dish. From what I've been reading, the reasons could be mites, temps, or shedding.

She for sure doesn't have mites. I looked her over carefully.

Her hot side temps stay around 90 and don't go over 94-95. Her cool side temps range between 80 and 86, depending on the day and time of day. There's no AC in this apartment so I haven't figured out how to keep the cool side temps any lower.

And since I've only had her a week, I can't tell if she's about to go into shed or not...

Do yall think she's just cooling down since her cool side temps aren't that ideal?

I haven't seen anything about snakes soaking just because they like it so I am a little concerned.

Re: Frequent soaking?

Try lowering the warm sides temp a little, from 90 degrees to 87 degrees.

It usually stays around 65% but can go down to 60% sometime. I also need to re-calibrate my hygros. But it's definitely not too low. If anything, I'd be worried about it getting too high

Re: Frequent soaking?

I also have a snake that soaks a lot. I have double and triple checked humidity, temps, and for mites. Sometimes there are snakes that just like to soak a lot.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I've seen a few different snakes that soak just to soak, my king does this, had me pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, but it's just a behavior some snakes adopt.

Haha okay. I just read in a few places that it means something is wrong. But I don't blame her for wanting to soak. Water is amazing

I'm still waiting for a potential shed, so we'll see.

But yes... it's been pretty hot here in LA the last 2 days... Too hot for me anyway.
