first live feed

So i just fed my new baby snow its first live animal, everyone please reassure me that the little green lizards out your yard are safe, . So far she has only been fed dead pinkies but she just shed and it will be a week saturday that she ate and after shedding her skin seemed really lose so my husband caught this tiny liz hatchling and i put her in container from pshopand she snatched it right up like shed been doin it all along

People will probably crap a gold brick and freak out over parasites in a WC green anole. It's a plausible, but over-exaggerated topic. I myself, have fed off more than a few Mediterranean geckos caught on the back porch to some finicky African house snakes in the past.

But in reality, chances are, your snake will be fine. But I wouldn't make a habit of it. Try to keep it on mice. You don't want it getting a taste for lizards!

thanks and i definitely wont make habit of it especially cus of parasites, which by the way if i did inadvertently give it parasites what would i look for or is there something i should go purchase this weekend to prevent that wont hurt anything.

i have NO issues with live feeding.....

that said,imo it would be better to keep her on frozen thawed prey,as it is easy to get hold of

also i don't want to alarm you,but i would only feed wild prey from an area,i knew was free of chemicals and pesticides

imo the only danger of feeding wild prey,is if they are exposed to,or injest pesticides,etc,as it can be bad for a snake,to eat prey that have injested chemicals/pesticides

ewww that pic is not what i want to happen is their any precautions after exposure to take or is it not the skin contact but the ingestion where she can get them and how will i know if she does

also water. Is it ok to use city tap water and if not which type bottled should i use, spring, distilled, drinking?????

Randy, can you offer some background on that photo, specifically the animal being necropsied, the parasites identified and the alleged prey item that was the carrier?

Given that green anoles and corn snake share much of the same range, and baby corns do include them in their diet in the wild, I wouldn't think parasites would too much of a problem. I think there needs to be a little more studies on this before everyone raises their hands in the air and claims, "Oh no, everytime you feed a WC prey item to your snake, its automatically dead."

I use regular tap water for my snakes, and they have never had any problems with it.

C. oreganus. I wasn't able to ID specific species of parasite. The prey was fence lizards and house mice. Here http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/gener...-necropsy.html

Fecal test at a local vet will tell you if they have them.
