Talking new texan

Put a deposit on a red tail today, getting it friday, payday. $100 for a nice darker marked baby.Need enclosure advice please.
Petshop kid said too big a enclosure would stress the snake out?
Otoh I could cordon off part of it of course. Saw a tutorial on making an enclosure from 2 large rubbermaid containers. I plan to keep him in a closet away from prying eyes of the landlord

Im also I to guns and motorcycles. Can post pics of my toys if ya want

Welcome to the forum.

Does your landlord not permit snakes? Keeping one despite your agreement with the landlord could be very bad for you, and consequentially the snake, too.

No, you haven't broken any rules. We post a link to the rules so that you can read them over and familiarize yourself with them.

Re: new texan

No, you have not broken any rules. as Alessia just pointed out, we always link them in our welcome post.

It's amazing how many people never read them though, then seem upset or surprised when they do break them.

Don't know if you ever saw the episode of "South park" called "Human Centipad" it was all about how quickly people click digital agreements without ever reading them.

Re: new texan

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If you do go with a bigger enclosure make sure your snake as plenty of hides so he feels secure cuz if you don't he will stress it out which isn't good I personally would go with a smaller enclosure until he gets bigger then move him into a bigger one

You should first talk to your landlord before getting a snake as another member suggested you do

No. Not unless you want to buy another tank in 3 months, then one after that, then one after that. What I'd like to know is what else the shop kid told you about "Redtails". I want to help you but an RTB just doesn't sound like an appropriate snake for you.

Re: new texan

Perhaps a kenyon sand boa would be a better choice they only get a few feet long and could be in a 10 or 20 ga tank easily. Read up on them and see if its something you would enjoy and be able to " hide" all though I strongly reccomend being up front about last thing you want is for you and your snake living in your car!

Re: new texan

I just don't know why you would risk your home and the home of an animal by not discussing this with the person who holds the power over if you stay or not. You say she never enters your room but what if she does and you get kicked out, what happens to the snake where does it go ?

Re: new texan

Hate to be a party popper but... That baby red tail boa will grow to be 10ft. It will outgrow a 10gallon in no time. Also, keeping it in the closet isn't a good idea. Snakes need light of some sort, just like we do. A 10gallon tank will also give your problems with humidity if it has a mesh screen lid.
