frn western mass

Hi everyone I'm nikki from western mass n first time snake owner. Just got my 7 month old het albino boa constricter and named him Hades. I mostly got the cage all set up correctly. My inexperience is in the proper handling. Ive been handling him every day and so Far he's been a perfect gentlemen not biting or even hissing. He's never been handled before me. Just looking for tips on snake behavior and how to make him more used to me. Thanks

Hi and welcome!

Sorry i don't have any handling tips but my only comment would be if he's new to you you might want to let him get settled and eat a few times before handling him

Re: frn western mass

Welcome! The best advice i've heard for handling is to not limit the snakes movement (dont squeeze or grab the snake) just let it move around and if you have to "guide" it where you want it to go. Another thing is if you can, approach the snake from "below" (dont just grab at it, but gently sneak your hand under it and lift from below) when picking it up to not scare it too much)
welcome! i'm new too :P

Re: frn western mass

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to see another person near me!

As far as handling goes try to not handle him any more until he eats a few times for you. Once he is eating then you can handle him more. It is best not to handle any snake for 48 hrs after it eats. This will allow time for your snake to digest his meal. The other good way to go about handling is to start with 5 min sessions every day then slowly build up to longer periods of time. However keep in consideration what temp the room you are in is and how hot/cold your snake will get.
