Savannah monitor enclosure questions

Okay guys my enclosure is 5 x 2 x 3. My monitor is only 13 inches, dont know how old he is only a couple months I think! The cool side is around 82 f and the basking area is 120 f. He won't burrow unless I burry worms. My humity is low I wil seal it with glue againtonight while he is sleeping! But I wanted to know of I should drill so,e holes in the cool side for cool air? I want to keep the soil moist to but it's really hard. I have a 150 watt no light ceramic bulb. And another one 75 watt inn the corner for light also a UVB bulb. I want to get more lights in a row making it more light and humity higher! Anyways any suggestions are welcome I will most Liku follow them! Thanks

Re: Savannah monitor enclosure questions

Air holes are not necessary, opening the door lets in enough fresh air to last for days.

Think about this, in the wild they go way down in those dank burrows, it's humid, it's dark, and there is almost no air flow.

No it's not.

70-75 down in the tunnels is great, 82 up top is not a bad number at all.

The high wattage is sucking the humidity out of the air.

Re: Savannah monitor enclosure questions

Like I said, a pair of 45 watt floods, and a fluorescent on the other end to lighten up the cage.

30 grand a year is a great income, now think about it, unless he owns the pet store, why would someone who pulls down $600 a week (supposedly selling pythons) work at a minimum wage job?

I quit a career with benefits and a decade of my life invested for less than $30k gross per year.

I had the same thought Wayne but maybe that "breeder" was purchasing something as opposed to working there. Or maybe he was looking for new stock?!

Re: Savannah monitor enclosure questions

I dunno, if I was making that kind of money breeding pythons I would want a part time job just to do something when I'm not taking care of the critters other than play video games, read, and watch TV.

F that, I'd move my desktop into the snake room and play MMO's all day everyday.

I dont think you would have time just because of the sheer number of animals needed to make that much money

Re: Savannah monitor enclosure questions

It seemed a little shakey him telling me this, but he has a contract with a couple pet stores in town, plus petsmart
