Re: Do snakes Get bored?

Not a scientific study at all:

Garter snakes (In captivity) do seem to be more active when there is things to do in the cage.

However, Since it it widely believed that snakes in general cannot form a complex thought process at all anyways, One would be led to believe that they cannot become bored.

In order to become "bored" the snake would need to feel as if it were missing out on something...

Re: Do snakes Get bored?

I've noticed my lizard definitely gets bored (scratches on the glass and runs around a lot) but I don't really think my snakes do.
They are solitary animals so I wouldn't think they get bored.
Then again my snakes are nocturnal and the lizard is diurnal so I see what the lizard does but not usually what the snakes do cause I'm asleep.

Re: Do snakes Get bored?

After almost a quarter century of cohabitation with snakes, I'd would personally say Yes, yes they do. But then again, that could just be the meds talkin'...it's not like I've ever heard one *say* they're bored

haha good point. I know Kaybe enjoys coming out and exploring and sitting on my lap, but when he's in his cage I don't think he's actively thinking "ugh, I'm soooo bored" I think they live more in a moment-to-moment sort of way

sometimes i see my carpet python pressing up against the front of the cage, and if i open it he goes right up my arm. it's apparent that sometimes he wants out weather he's "bored" or not

Re: Do snakes Get bored?

I think it's more of a case of them not wanting to be contained or confined to the space they are in...I can tell that my snakes want to escape...they would probably rather be out exploring...but I don't think they are bored.

That implies they are aware that they're "missing out on something" which as stated earlier by infernalis would propose that they're somewhat "bored" in the cage.

it's really how you define bored though

Re: Do snakes Get bored?

Marriam-Webster Dictionary defines boredom as: the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest. Maybe the are bored! (at least if that's the definition we use)
