Exclamation heeeeelp!!!!!!

hello i have a snake that had a minor RI
i used ecualyptus oil all natural.

i used about 10 drop`s in a 2.5 gallon humidifier
to try and help take away the ri ,i did that for about 30 min`s
a day for about 4 day`s he now has gone into shed it has been 2 day`s since blue eye this snake has not shed in month`s the person that had it before gave it no water or proper heat and humidity for a year.

needless to say i have been doing everything in my power to help him.
but i fear i may have done somthing wrong.

his skin started to shed in a small area and it peeled away fine
but now 1 day later it look`s to be a sore or even a burn
it seem`s sensitive because if you touch it he flinche`s and get`s tence
i fear that all the skin under this shed will be like this please help me .
i don`t know what to do

i feel terrible

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

What kind of snake is it?
What are the temps on hot and cold side?
What is the humidity level?

P.S. Stop using the eucalyptus oil. It has phenolics and terpenoids oils which are the same oils pine trees produce- it's toxic to snakes. (I could be wrong but I don't think I am. Researching right now)

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

If it has an RI it needs medication rather than oils - get it to a vet.

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

As those before me have said about the RI, you need to get it to the vet. As for the sore, my snake went into a shed once and all but one spot came off. Like yours it started looking like a sore and my vet told me that it was an irritation of some sort. He told me to start using a shedding aid with the snake and after a few sheds it went away. But as the two guys before have said, a vet would be your best idea. Good luck

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

I would take it to the vet and remove all sub-straight and use paper towel or news paper for a while.

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

Using newspaper and paper towels won't irritate your animals skin as much as wood chips.

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

i have pm'd you a link on the alternative eucaliptus oil treatment for an ri

i would suggest you take the snake to the vet,as the ecaliptus treatment only works best,if the ri is caught at an early stage

imo, since the snake was kept with no heat for so long,it will now require medication from your vet

i'm glad the snake is now with someone who cares for it

all the best shaun

Re: heeeeelp!!!!!!

Definitely switch to colorless paper towels as has already been suggested. Also I agree with taking the animal to the vet. You could try allowing the snake to soak in some betadine.
