I'm guessing, though it doesn't mention anything here, that in most of these cases, it's more than just genetics at play and we're looking at the result of multiple generation inbreeding???

i dont know...even with inbreeding i wouldnt have thought it would have cropped up this often::shrugs::.....can anyone enlighten on this?

..The picture of the American Alligator is figured to be a hoax, an optical illusion. Being that theres only seem to be one picture of this animal, you'd think a find like this would add up on the pics.
Plus the whole two tailed bits arent nothing special, happens quite often with animals that have the caudal autotomy ability.
The albino alligator is pretty spiffy.

....Sure Rach. Humans can't handle multiple inbreeding attempts, I wouldn't see why It would be any different with Reptiles, or any other animal for that matter. Heh, pretty soon Bearded Dragons may be bred to extinction if it does get a fresh blood line.

its just like siamese twins, inbreeding shouldnt have anything to do with it. All inbreeding does is double up on the similar genes, with humans we have so many bad genes that the resulting offspring has major problems, but in the wild there arent that many bad genes present because only the most fit survive and the ones with the bad genes never get the chance to reproduce.

that is pretty wild, the Denver zoo at one time had an albino aligator. And in Reptile mag it has a picture of a 2-head turtle

The albino alligator was visiting Hershey park a while ago... unfortunately I got lost trying to find it and didn't end up seeing it ... My mum did, though, and when she got me to follow her, she got lost too... Sigh, like mother like daughter I guess.

alicewave..........usually a 2 headed snake will be ast fed by one head, either that or a piece of cardboard is placed between the headsd thus letting one head to eat. as in most cases the snake only has 2 heads and not 2 of every internal organ hunger will be satisfied by one meal

Down here in St. Augustine, Florida we have the St. Augustine Aligator Farm. As far as I know, it has the most extensive/complete colection of the crocodilian family in the world. They have a whole pen of albino gators. Very neat place!
