Re: My monitor cages
The first is 7x4x4, the second 2 are double 5x2.5.2.5. The sav is content in is, however the nile will be moving very soon into something larger, probably the end of the summer.

The nile was given a large bin of dirt/sand mixture to burrow in, however he never used it, always sat in one corner of the enclosure behind his log, or just under the bark. He still has a couple inches under his bark for humidity purposes. The picture of the 2 cages is a bit outdated and they have been re-arranged. The bottom cage now has 2" of moist bark for the sav.
The water has 3-4" of substrate, he was given more, but he didn't use it much, and instead really liked the water, so I went with a much larger water dish than the one pictured, in exchange for dirt mass.

Awesome. Never saw a monitor that didn't burrow though.

Re: My monitor cages
One thing that gets overlooked a lot, there is ways to simulate a burrow.
I have pics, on the laptop. I will copy them over and post soon.
a piece of drain pipe works great.

I really expected the nile, also a female, to burrow all the time, however for some reason she liked to climb more than dig. Which makes sense, monitors are easy to spot on the ground, and I've had several people who have watched young in the wild say they often times live close to water, and frequently will run right up trees.. She will be getting 1-2' of deep dirt substrate when she moves out of her current cage.
The sav has no toes to dig, and the water is missing half of his, which may play a decent part in that. Although, a lot of people have said their water monitors are not huge diggers, and prefer to hang out in the pool instead.
