Hey everybody. I'm new to the forum.
My name's Johnie. I just got my first red-tail boa over this last Christmas. She's about 6-1/2 ft long. I named her "Tat". I have a concern that the enclosure she came in isn't big enough from all the articles I've been reading about keeping this kind and size of snake. It's 4' long by 2' wide and 1-1/2' tall with double sliding glass panels. She has a healthy appetite, she's shed twice so far and doesn't mind being handled.....now anyways. She bit me twice when I first got her. Small holes but bleeds a lot. I let her outside in the grass, put her in the bathtub and let her run around the room and stretch out. She loves to stretch out. That's why I'm worrying about the tank size. Any input?

Hello and welcome! Your cage size is find for now. I just get her out once or twice a week and let her stretch. Love to see pics of her and her cage.

Everything sounds fine, take her out every once and a while to explore, they get some good stretching and if you handle them regularly i believe they get more accustomed to being manipulated, although i might be incorrect in that regard.

All looks cool.. Nice boa aswell.. Im not 100% sure but I think you want to measure the temperature at viv floor level as this is where the snake stays.. Not a major issue tho, just a suggestion... Welcome to ssnakess

Welcome - none of my snakes are that big yet (girthwise) but shouldnt there be some hides in the enclosure?

Yeah there should be a place to hide but really not enough room in there. I'm working on that. Gonna have to build something. Can't find anything big enough in our pet stores. Any ideas? Pictures?

Re: Hey everybody. I'm new to the forum.
A cat litter tray or Rubbermaid flipped over with an entrance cut out works well for the larger snakes. Or there's the disposable option of a cardboard box.
