More on Hog Island not eating

I see I said a fresh frozen snake, I meant rat. I have been feeding her thawed to room temp medium size rats. They are less than her widest girth. I got her a live rat to try and induce feeding behavior, but that didn't work. I'm thawing a new rat today in warm water. The live rat has been adopted into the family, so... Now I have a pet rat to go w/ the dogs, the cats, the snake, and the chickens I hope someone can give me some ideas, but after reading some stuff I'm much less worried. Apparently it is not unusual for Hog Island boas to not eat, especially in the Winter.
On another level, I'm glad I found this forum. I've already discovered some interesting stuff.

Oh, I forgot. She did a full skin shed.

ssg: i just got a hog island yesterday... supposed to be eating with no probs... i'll try tomorrow with a fresh killed adult mouse and let you know how it goes... if he won't take it, maybe you'll have some suggestions...

When i reieved my hogg she did not eat for about 3 1/2 weeks.Once settled in she started and now I can't get her to stop eating(lol).She is growing like a weed and seems to be doing great.Give yours a couple days in between trying and it will eat soon.

As was said in the other post just double check your temps and humidity and all will come around.
One thing you may want to try is to leave your snake alone for three or four days doing nothing more than cleaning any mess in the cage, refilling water, no handling, then try to feed again.

Often ... time is all it needs .. I am strong for putting the snake in a tiny box for a half hour to and coupl of hour b4 feeding ... it often does the trick fer me with problematic feeders!

hello, what is your snakes encloser like??? does it have a Hide a box inside the encloser, some boas are very secretive and shy, ussually picky eaters, need something to feel safe and comfortable inside, try using a live mouse, watch from a safe distance so not to disturb the snake. but never leave the rodent with the animals unsupervised. try different food items as well, if there is a chicken hatchery near by buy acouple of roaster chicks and try one of those, sometimes live chicks do the trick for sure.

You just mentioned she had a full shed. Has she refused any meals since then? Many snakes won't eat while they are in shed.... not just while they are opaque, but sometimes from 2+ weeks before they actually have a shed........
