Re: Thawing Rats?
Put the rat in a plastic zip lock bag and put the whole thing in a bowl of hot water.
In about an hour your rat should be thawed and warm.

Re: Thawing Rats?
Giving it a bit of a squeeze is also a good idea to ensure its not still frozen internally

i lay all mine out on a tray and thaw for 6 to 8 hours at room temperature
i then heat them up with a hair dryer
carpets having awsome heat pits appreciate the heat signature
it also saves them shooting past the feeding tongs and striking my hands
cheers shaun

Re: Thawing Rats?
Thawing out at room temperature is not recommended as it encourages bacteria growth.
Put them in a bowl of hot tap water (NOT boiling water, as this will cook them) and change the water every 5 - 10 minutes until the rat is fully thawed. To get it an extra burst of heat, let the hot tap water run over it for about a minute.
Rats have a normal body temperature of around 100 F, so if the rodent feels really warm or hot to the touch, it's probably at about the right temperature.
Before feeding, make sure you check the belly area to ensure it has been fully thawed out. If you feel any cold spots, or if the belly is slightly crunchy, then thaw it a bit longer.

Re: Thawing Rats?
I thaw mine overnight same theory as Shaun, then heat them on a heatbulb in the viv before feeding.

Re: Thawing Rats?
I thaw mine out in a tub of warm water, I prefer to place the rats directly in the water so when they eat a wet rat they are getting extra hydration, Not necessary because im sure they have water available at all times but what can it hurt.

Re: Thawing Rats?
I've been leaving my large rats to thaw in the fridge overnight because I am such a scatter brain I'll forget to take them out of the freezer and get them in warm water until late in the evening. By letting them pre thaw in the fridge it takes less time in the water to warm them up.

Re: Thawing Rats?
I do mine under bulbs at a hot spot of 45C for about 40 mins, nicely thawed and nicely warmed for them.
