Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

I go to reptile shows and buy about two months' worth of food at once. For me it works since there are several reptile shows that are within an hour's drive for me. When you order rodents online, you really have to order at least $100 worth for it to be worth the shipping costs, and if you only have 2 snakes it will be hard to fill a large enough order. Are there any pet stores near you where you can get frozen rodents?

If you google "(your state's name) reptile shows" you will get a list of reptile expos and shows in your state and you can try to find one close enough to you to warrant driving and buying lots of food.

I usually buy bulk....it offsets the shipping costs.

See if you can find a friend or two to split orders up and save.

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

my problem is that the closest reptile show is about a ten hou drive... i have wanted to go to one forever. There is a big in La and another one in SanDiego but that is a very long drive but if i find other things to do it may be worth a road trip but still that isnt for a while

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

Rodent pro ships anywhere in the USA, and if you buy 500 - 700 mice at once the price is very reasonable.

Make sure you can feed off that many. Frozen rodents will go bad after a few months.

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

I just calculated a 100 pink order, 12 dollars for mice, 38 for shipping, $50 for the order divided by 100 still makes those pinks 50 cents each.

Petco charges well over $1 for each pinkie they sell, so in the end it is still a load cheaper to order from rodent pro.

Mice direct is another option, I have a friend who swears by them. (worth looking into)

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

As I have only three snakes at this time, all on different F/T prey, I order from themousefactory.com. Most of the other places I've looked at have a minimum of 100 per package. At themousefactory, I can buy smaller packages, so I don't run the risk of things going bad.

If I'm careful about planning so that all three start to run out of prey items at about the same time, I can order a combination for them that cuts down on the cost per item, even with the shipping, which is expensive but necessary. Even so, it's definitely MUCH cheaper to buy online than to go buy one-three feeders (the package sizes I've seen available locally) at one of the local pet stores,

Also, store your F animals inside their plastic bag inside another air-tight container in your deep freezer. That will help them keep longer.

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

Never a problem in this house, we use 500+ mice per month.

My orders are between 500 and 700 mice at a time.

How do you know when they go bad....do they just get freezer burnt or something?

Re: Need f/t pinky mice!!!

The fastest way to ruin them is leave the bag open or torn.

If the mice are sealed up good, they will last a bit longer.

I go through them way too fast to worry about it, but I know one person who keeps her mice in a "rubbermaid" container to seal them even better.

I keep mine in a rubbermaid as well just because they share a freezer with other people. Naturally, no one else in the house wants to see ratcicles.
