Baby Corn A.K.A Couch Potato

We have a 14 inch baby corn. He is very health, eats well etc. However he never comes out during the day. He is my sons pet (really mine) and they rarely see him if not peaking in his hide box. After much reading, I know they are mostly nocturnal. I am not doing a lot of handling yet. Small amounts. What I do is take him out of his hide box, let him sniff my hand and then he starts exploring his viv alot. Do you think that if I keep encouraging him to explore in this way, he will become less skiddish? Or, is he going to be a couch potato during the day by nature?

Almost all baby corns are quite skittish at first but with gentle handling will be come very docile in a few months or so. They almost never come out during the day so don't worry about that either.

Mine only seem to come out during the day if they're geting hungry, or if I bother them (change the cage, add water, handle, etc.) If you close the drapes ad turn off all the lights in your snake room and only have on a nightlight, you might see your little buddy prowling around.
I've had baby corns so skiddish that they nipped at my fingers or tried to go "fiying" out of my hands. If the little fellow is just a bit jumpy, don't worry at all. Think of how scared you'd be if you were picked up by a hand where each finger was twice your size!

Our adults come out of their hides usually morning and evening when they are hungry. We don't see much of them for a week or so after they are fed - they just hide out and digest.

We have a couple that like to bask in their hot spot even during the heat of the day, and have read that corns don't bask because they are nocternal, but some seem to like it. Most of ours are in hiding during the day though, unlike the cal kings and pythons, who are almost always out.
