Re: new to site tring to get active
Hi Commrad, nice collection! Welcome to the forum; you will find tons of good advice and useful info on here, and everyone is very nice. I actually just ended up with a rat Monday night, and I'm thinking of getting a hairless dumbo rat to keep him company. They are funny little critters. I (and my fiance) also have 30 snakes, 2 jackson's chams, 5 geckos, 5 cats, a dog, and a couple of frogs.

Re: new to site tring to get active
Put some baby oil on her eyes, and soak her in 85 degree water for 10-15 minutes to loosen up the skin on the body. If she doesn't like to soak, put her in a pillowcase with a damp towel in it overnight. That will force her to rub against the towel and loosen the old skin. Put the baby oil on her eyes once in the morning and once in the evening. The eyecaps should come off in a few days. If they don't, you should probably take her to the vet and get an antibiotic lotion. I had this problem with my ball python, and it took 3 vet visits and 2 months to get him to shed again and get the old eye caps off. He had several built up on top of each other. He is fine now. If you could get a picture of the red-tails eyes and post it, I might be able to give you more specific advice.

Re: new to site tring to get active
As for the wheezing ball, I would check her for respiratory infection. Wheezing is usually a sign of one. For now, you can raise the temperature and humidity in her cage. That should help her breathe more easily and ramp up her immune system, but in all likelihood you will need to take her to the vet. RI's are best treated with antibiotics. Check to see if there is any discharge around the mouth- is the snake breathing with its mouth open?

I'm not sure; I think either will be fine.

Re: new to site tring to get active
That is odd, that she is wheezing with no other signs of RI. Good that you're taking her to the vet, it's better to be safe than sorry. Just make sure your vet is experienced with herps, otherwise the trip will be a waste of money.
