Need help with my snakes.

HELP ME PLZ why is my snake holding up her tail when i put her in a tank with my male he is only a few weeks old and my female is a mounth or 2 my male is a carolina and my female is butter motley there names are Baby and Zoe they live in a large vivarium together with lots of hiding places and plastic plants they have a water bowl each on different sides of the viv and she only done it once. HELP ME PLZ.

I don't know for sure what the symptom indicates, but I do know that keeping two snakes together unless you are actually trying to breed them is not a good idea. It's very possible that you will wake up one morning to discover you have only one snake.

What kind of snakes are these? Corn snakes? When the female is holding her tail upright, is it vibrating? She may be trying to "rattle" to warn the other snake away--corn snakes are among the snakes that will rattle their tails in dry leaves to make other predators think they are dangerous & should be left alone.

Yes never good to keep more than one snake in one viv. It will stress the snakes both of them

Individual housing is your best bet. Group housing is NOT the way to go. When snakes are young is when they are most likely to eat one another. Snakes should only be kept together for breeding purposes. As for the tail thing if she was an adult & him as well I would say she was showing she is receptive to breed. In the case of yours I'd say its more of a warning or marking gesture. Whether you realize it or not keeping them together puts them under undue stress & unnessicary risks. Mark
