Hi everyone, my names tom and ive been a reptile freak 4 6 yrs, never have gotten into the whole computer thing, but now i am . I'm a full time carpenter,A part time college student and reptile lover. I have a few snakes described in general discussion, check it out! im interested in any input or questions u folks may have , just give me a hollar. oh yeah if any of u know on a good way to heat a 6ft long 2 ft high 3 ft deep custom built birch plywood terra. let me know what,how and where! i have 1 100watt infrared heat bulb inside now in a porclain socket and im happy so far, but winter is coming, and i like to keep my house at around 68-72 degrees F. So any help would be awesome... tt4n

Have you looked into Heat Panels? I know Pro Heat makes some real nice ones.

Okay, I thought all you had to do was tell them the size of your cage and ambient room temps?

Could add another socket and a ceramic heat emitter?

Or perhaps a Kane Heat mat? from Kane Manufactering?

Those are the a couple of easier fixes to do what you want to do. Just thoughts.

I just looked at the kane heat mats, and i like wat i see. Im definitley getting a couple of those. Im building stackable cages, 4 to be exact. And would love 4 any input. I have a few idea's but have not made any decisions. I have 400 bux to work with, should i go plastic , or wood? Even though im a carpenter , long lasting cages would be a relief.

Yeah I personally love those mats....I've had one running for damn near 15 years straight and it still works like the day I got it.

Well with only $400 to work with you'll probably be going with wood cages....the PVC plastic stuff gets mighty expensive plus you need the tooling to heat bend and heat weld everything together. There's no reason why wood cages wouldn't hold up, I've got one that I built 14 years ago that I'm still using today, properly sealed they last a long time! Plus in my opinion they actually hold heat a lot better than plastic. Use a good clear coat finish and you can even get it smooth as glass for easy cleaning.

This up coming season I've got some killer Surinames going together, those would be on the large size though the Female is already close to the 9 foot range.
Longicaudas may go this season too....here's hoping, the female looks ready the Male is kind of poking behind her..LOL We'll see though he may surprize me yet.

Lot of my Higher end boas are out about another year. I really don't push my snakes so it takes me longer to grow them up for breeding, but I'm not in it for the money....that's what the snake hooks are for! LOL
