I have an old Canon Eos 650, 35mm SLR. I tried using it for pics of my snakes but I don't have a high enough zoom or a close up lens.

I have a Minolta 3500. The only lense I have is a 70 - 210 so I need to stand on chairs or at the other side of the room to get good pics of my snakes.

It takes great pics overall and I've been very happy with it so far... plus it was free! It was a wedding gift from my in-laws.

we have three 35mm cameras, a canon eos, a pentax super program and a polaroid... the canon has dead batteries so we can't even finish off the film to take it out

Is there any other type of camera. Digital has taken all the skill out of photography. A 2 yr old can take a picture in focus and properly exposed with a digital camera. The composition may suck though. I'm sticking with my Canon EOS 650 and my Pentax SP 1000.

im not a hardcore photo guy but I have taken a lot of pictures and do enjoy it as a side hobby...i used an old nikon slr for a while and recently switched to digital. im gunna have to disagree with ya swampwalker...the skill in taking photos does not lie in the ability to focus a camera or to setup aperture/shutter in order to "properly" expose a picture (i.e. no regard to composition). composition is IMO 90% of the "skill". but hey thats just my take on the thing...ive taken some pretty kickass digiphoto pics and some crappy ones as well...fwiw if I plan on taking any decent photo I set my digi to 100% manual.
