Tank Sizes???

I was just wondering if a 55 gl tank would be to big for my kingsnake.The snake is a little over a foot in length. I heard that the size could be too big and cause the snake stress. I havn't put the snake in it yet. I've also heard that with proper hide spots and decor, the snake should be fine. Would this tank be large enough to house the snake at its maximum size?

Any help or personal suggestions are greatly appreciated.

im not knowledgable with kings but have done some reading.. im pretty sure a king would live nicely in a 55g.. espically if its long..

as for stress.. ive heard the same as you.. if you have smaller tanks thats your best bet.. if not you could always use a devider to make the tank smaller for now.

thanks for the help. maybe i'll just leave the snake in the 10 gl its in now until it gets a little bigger.

A 55gal.tank will be more than big enough for your snake when full grown.You can leave it in the 10gal.till it is around 2ft.

i put it in the 55 gl and it seems to be doing fine. do you think it will be ok. theres plenty of hides and i think the temperature is good. cool and warm are at the right temps and stuff. it seems to be ok with the large tank. what do you think?

As long as they have a hiding spot and proper temps, there's no reason for a snake to get stressed in larger enclosures. I usually start my snakes off in the same enclosure I plan to use for them the rest of their lives, and haven't had any problems. For instance, my Florida Kings (about 13" when I got them) get started in 50 gal's. and don't get stressed. The main thing is providing hides, and good temps.
