This is opinion only, since I do not have a moniter, but I am in the same situation as you. I want one

If you want a smaller moniter I would look at Ackies. Paul from BIghhill Reptiles has some I think.

But if I were looking for a larger lizard I think I would lean towards the Tegus.

If you want to see a full grown Black and White, go to "The Reptile Store" in Hamilton. Paul (different guy) has an adult there that is pretty cool.

Good luck in your search.

As far as monitors go Ackies are the way to go as they need the least amount of space of all the monitors the other choice besides that in my opinion is a savannah .. they are hardy and if healthy are resilient and can stand a few mistakes and still survive .. I currently own 4 sav's ( 2 males one female and an unsexed juvi ) and am looking at getting another female for my extra male .. they are very nice monitors.

that is my opinion .. I thouroughly enjoy my savannahs and they are failry hand tame ... meaning they tolerate me touching and handling them oncassionally .. not agressive at all
