Hi, im new to the forum, and i was wondering if you could help me out a little bit. I just bought a boa constrictor a baby, about 50 cm long. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on feeding habits (amount, i heard once every week, and small mice...)
also could you give me an idea about how fast do they grow?

thanks a lot,
Diego

Well first off, what kind of boa constrictor is it? BCI Boa Contrictor Imperator will grow fairly fast and gain most of its body weight and lenths in the first year and a half to two years though they pretty much the same as BCCs one every 7-10 days should be fine, Depending on its size you should find out what to feed him. If its is a BCC Boa Constrictor Constrictor, it will grow fairly slow but grow much larger. Again they eat every 7-10 days. In both species the Females will grow much larger than the males, but just cause you have a large snake doesnt exactly mean its a female. To determine sex your better off getting your snake probed when its >old enough< by a herp vet or maybe ask the workers at your local reptile store (if there really nice and great people, and wouldnt try to cheat you, like the reptile store here in hamilton). Give me the size (length and weight)of your snake and i will be able to tell you what he/she should be feeding on. If you cannot get the weight that is fine but its better if you can. Just give me the length and ill let you know.[Edit: just read over your post it says your snake is 50cm, your Boa should probably be eating on juvenile rats or mice, they will be fairly small, a little bit bigger than fuzzies. He should have one of those every maybe 6-7 days, you can feed every 7-10 when he gets a bit older and isnt growing as much anymore. Hope this helped. Good luck with your herp, hope you know these things get well over 6feet long, and can weight 20lbs+. soon enough your going to need a 4-5 foot enclosure that is 2-2.5 feet deep and around 1.5 feet tall. Anyways, just hopin u knew all this, good luck again.]

calm down and give it some time to settle into its new home. make sure that its enviremont is set up correctly and then try to feed it in a couple weeks. snakes dont always eat right after you get them. they can be stressed out from being in a new home. what are you trying to feed it, live or frozen thawed? if youre feeding it f/t maybe try a live mouse to get it to feed a couple times and then try to switch it back over to f/t. good luck
