Exploriums?

I was wondering if u could house a male chameleon in one of those Exoterra Exploriums like the large on that is 24 inches in diamter and 36 inches tall. Dont worry about heating and lighting i can rig that up just fine. Any ideas/comments?

that would be the perfect set up for a chameleon, but a larger one might be needed as the chameleon grows. Depends on the species really. What do you have or what are you planning on getting.

Are you talking about the round hanging enclosures?
I thought those were so cool the first time I saw them. I love how they can fold up so easily.
any more questions just holla

peace

yea not really a veilds person myself, but im pretty sure that is the bare minimum size of enclosure for an adult. Something alittle bigger might make him alot happier with more room to move around and hunt for food.
It would be a great enclosrue to put him in to take out side for some natural sunlight. But you also need a special calcuim supplement if he is going to be spending alot of the time outside.
Im pretty sure it is one with out d-3 in it.

But im not totally sure. Carl might be a good person to pm about that.

peace

I have never heard of an Explorarium, anyone have a link to pics and info on them?

id be really weary of mounting a heat lamp inside a chameleon enclosure. Something that small the heat lamp should do just fine on the outside.

Okay, I have seen those, perfect idea for smaller chams and brooks.

I agree with galad, heat lamps should never be inside the cage unless there is no way the cham can be burnt by it.

i agree with heat lamp inside the tank, i know some one who had one inside and the whole tank caught on fire..thank god the chameleon was ok..just shaked up. but they are very good for them, they need that air movement.

You have spiked a huge interest in these cages for me. They would be very handy for temporary basking enclosures for smaller or baby chams, or even for a holding cage for collected field plankton soon to be fed to chams.

Thanks for pointing them out!

I am just curious if anyone has used them before and does the mesh melt easily with simple incandescent lighting?

Yes I have been to the site, and although they say the mesh is strong, it says nothing about withstanding any heat.

Is nylon tough against heat?
