Mate, that narrow it down just a bit; I'll say Crotalus catalinensis. Where'd you manage to photograph one of them?

Here's one that we don't often see photos of, though some related species are quite well known.
I'll credit the photo once someone gets the species.

I looked it up and actually this snake was discribed as a Nerodia in 1994, but that classification was shot down quickly enough. Notice that it is trying very hard to have a lateral stripe.

Jordan was on the right track with Nerodia harteri.
While Nerodia and this genus are related, this species and harteri aren’t especially close. The similarity is an example of parallel evolution; the species share a stream-type habitat and are even found in the same region (SW USA).
So, it’s a semi-aquatic natricine from the South-West, and most people are familiar with some of it’s genus-mates.
Hopefully that helps a little.

'Twas a Narrow-headed Gartersnake ( Thamnophis rufipunctatus) from the Tuscan Herp Society.
Who's turn is it now?

what if we try picking one person to post a photo and whoever guesses it gets to post next and so on and so on... if no one gets it the person posting will reveal the species and post another?
what ya think?

Just a tip to make this game not as easy: don't put what kind of snake it is in the file name of the picture. Hit properties on any of the pics, and it will tell you exactly what it is. Just thought I'd let you know.
Hump.
