Hatchling rubbermaids

I finally found a Canadian tire that carried some stock of the rubbermaids I've been looking for. I was curious of everyone's opinion on the size of rubbermaid I bought for hatchlings. I wanted to try and keep the standard height of 6" so I wouldn't have to build a completely separate rack with a different height. The rubbermaids I got are the 16x11x6. Any thoughts on if they are too big or not?

Adam, these rubbermaids are the ones that I used all last season for my hatchling balls (#2220), adn they worked great. I will be using them again, as well as incorporating the #2118's as well (11X8X4.5).

Now to just find some of the Adult Size rubbermaids. I got about 6 of the hatchling size ones, I'm hoping I'm going to need double that amount of tubs

Adam, for adult rubbermaids, I've had great success with keeping my adult balls in rubbermaid #2221 (23X16X6). They are large enough to provide a large female ample room for thermoregulation yet small enough to provide a yearling with dark spaces and comfort. They can be had at Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, etc. for between $8-$12.

I found a bunch that were 22x16x6 (and bought as many as they had). They are an inch smaller then you suggest, I was thinking about getting something a bit larger for adults and seeing how that worked. Trying to find one that is 31 - 33x16x6. I've read all the threads posted here about rubbermaid sizes, read the info on Mark Mandic's site and your site, and watched the sutherland video a bunch of times and I think I'd like to go with a bit larger of a surface area. We'll see how it works, good thing is that if I find it isn't working as well as I'd like I can go to a smaller rubbermaid without having to re-do my entire rack.

As for finding rubbermaids I have the worst luck. I've looked in 2 diffrent WalMarts,2 diffrent Home Depots, Home Hardware, Rona, Sears, and a Canadian Tire by my house with no luck in finding any of the right sizes. Wasn't untill I went to the Canadian tire in Newmarket that I found the ones I was looking for. Guess I will have to venture into the city to get the rest.

I was planning on using the size you asked about, the bigger size, and found them at Wal-Mart for $18.00, (see the similar post below), however now that I see people (Mykee) are using the smaller size I am using that. I actually prefer the Sterilite Brand ($7.00) but they make the same dimensions as Mike mentioned above.

I keep my ball pythons in Sterilite containers that I get at Canadian tire. They are 37*22*5. Makes for a larger rack but also allows for a greater thermal gradient and (I believe) happier pythons.

I used to keep my balls in the underbed rubbermaids (#2119-87)that you guys are talking about with the dimensions of 34X16X6 or similar, and MY EXPERIENCE with them, (ONLY MY EXPERIENCES) were that the balls did not feel secure enough, which led to them being sporadic eaters at best. Let it be known that they were also in a rack made of black melamine to allow for a darker environment.
When I moved my balls from the 34X16X6's to the 23X16X6's (#2221), ALL yes, ALL of the balls that were switched over began eating on a weekly schedule again. This is just my experience, but I have spoken with people who have had the same thing happen. I've also spoken with folks who couldn't be happier with the underbed #2119-87's. It's a personal choice, one that your SNAKES should make, not you.

My pythons also eat weekly. Actually I bought a python that was off feed for 6 months with the previous owner and started eating once I got it. I have multiples hide boxes in all the cages so that might also make a difference. Without hide boxes a smaller container may make them more at ease. I believe that as long as the snakes have somewhere that they feel safe with the proper temperature it's a moot point.

the rubbermaid #2220's are pretty hard to find! I've been to 3 different walmart's, 2 Canadian Tires, and a Zellers!
Not too sure where else to find them....

There are literally hundreds of #2220's and #2221's at Wal-Mart out by my neck of the 401. Hundreds I tell you!!!

You can most likely go to the custumer service desk and get them to order the ones you want, at least that is what they do here if they don't have any in the store. HTH

Mykee you wanna share which Super WalMart is hording all the rubbermaids in the west end?

I find myself in the west end atleast once a month if not more so stoping in and picking some up would be good if I knew where this magic walmart was

Malaysian, mabye I will try asking the service desk to order some for me, I'm going to be buying enough of them that it should work out well for them in the end as well.

Adam, if you're willing to travel to pick up all you need, check out the Wal-Mart at Pinebush and Hespeler in Cambridge or the one in Fairview Mall in Kitchener, they're both loaded to the "tips" with what you would need.

From readin' this thread... or at least I think I read it correctly, you can house an adult ball in a 23X16X6 Rubbermaid?

I'm lookin' into keepin' balls in Rubbermaids, idea is still in the air however...
