LOL. Been there, done that. Not with a dirt bike though. The jumps I build or find are usually meant for the bmx bike, so they can be fairly high.

I went off a very tall dirt jump, don't remember the hieght for sure, nor really what type of jump, lol. All I remember it was over my head. I had to been about 11, and very unexperienced.

I went off of it, not relizing on there was a giant boulder or rock of some sort to greet me on the other side. The front tire hit the rock, I went clean over the bars and smack my head into eaither pavement or something solid. But to this day not sure, lol. I remember my hands went down first, to stop the fall to an exstent but then the cranium smacked against something rough. During my lapse and dizzyness, I could barely walk, much less count backwards from 10. But somehow remembered to drag my bike out of the middle of the road, so I wouldn't get hit by a car??? Why I never just left it there in the street and seek immeadiate help is beyond me.

Now Im into agro sk8ting. I wanna get out of it since im a dare devil and try u, know jumping of 8ft sair cases!
I used to do some aggressive skating. But never developed the passion or balence as I did with bike and boards, which both I have used since I was very young.

Boards, I haven't really done too much with aggression i.e. grinds, arials, or trick combos. I prefer to go strieght down steep hills, standing and carving. Quite fun actually and really hones the balence since not all streets are made equal, lol. I am a street skater. I do vert once in a while but I prefer the street, more versatility and hella alot more fun than parks.

I was in to skate bording untill I broke my arm so now i just skate on my long board just goofin around .. But beside that all my friends were in to BMX- some flatland and the rest street and dirt.. I was never very good when I tried my luck. But I was the "crash test dummy" more or less.. My friends made the jumps and I tested them.. If I made it through it then they would try..lol..
But I know what ypou mean by overshootin a jump not fun at all.. Luckly I havent broke anything from ridin a bike.

I'm aware of that, lol. It's a bad habit at which I have learned throughtout the years. No helmet does mean playin with fire. But I apperiate the reminder.

My legs and feet were literally black from about 1/2 way down my shin from internal bleeding. I've got eight 2' screws and two 3' screws and two L-shaped frames holding it all together on one side and the other side just split in half and just needed a cast. I have some pretty crazy pics (not digital tho) that I'll try and get scanned to show you. There was 22 staples sewing it back together. the way they did it was disgusting...keep in mind the dr. discribed it to me right before they put me under. I don't know if they were trying to make me pass out to save money on the anesthetics (sp?) but it almost made me pass out. Anyways they left the piece attached to my achilles tendon and screwed all the pieces of bone back to that one, then stretched it back down to where it was supposed to be and screwed it to the rest of my foot. Also this was two weeks after it happen because they had to wait for the swelling to go down.

Still have my Dyno, my Redline, and an old Haro Sport (just for vert). I'm an inch away from pulling hitchikers and then I can retire. For sure man! Rode from '88 to '95, then again for a couple years in '99-'01. Now its just sporadic flat and a few dirt lines once and a while. Jammed with Jay Miron, Hoffman, Wilkerson, Jay Brown, Ron Mercer, Macintosh, Steve Roy, Perry Mervar, Steve Loveridge, Martin Aparijos, etc etc etc.

It was my life for the better part of a decade man!

That's awesome! I would've loved to have a session with all those guys! I have never ridden with anyone famous really, but one of the guys I ride with grew up riding with John Heaton. I don't know if you'll know him, he's one of the younger riders (not saying you're old!), but I personally think he is already one of, if not the best. He's from 20 minutes outside of London, and you should see how good he is. Backflips to manuals on a 10ft Sub-box like it's nothing. I've seen him ride lots, but never ridden with him. He's 21 or 22 now and has had his own Macneil Signature frame for a few years. Check out some of the newer "Props" videos and he's sure to be on there. Give him another 5 or ten years and he'll be the best, hands down.

Humphrey, I grew up in Thunder Bay Ontario, Jay Miron's home town. Me and my buddies always went bmxing/skateboarding/what your weapon of war was. Those were good days. I was more into street riding like staircases and gaps, and grinds, no ramps though. We didn't have much going on in our city with ramps. The parks they did build were street parks to get us off the streets haha. We were okay with it as the asphault of a northern ontario city isn't exactly smooth. But man those were good days, now I trail ride, not so much this past summer but I plan on getting out mroe this summer, friends are lazy. Anyways, Jay would come back to Thunder Bay every now and then and we would go riding with him. He did this stupidly crazy set of stairs at a highschool 50/50 (I think that's what a grind with two peggers going is called, forget) down em. I couldn't believe it, we only did that kinda crap on our snowboards. And, as for the don't overjump the landings, it's pretty icy at ski hillls there and I launched over our showtime booter onto my back past the landing at the beginning of the year, appararently when I woke up and asked some questions I thought it was the end of the year! haha..Anyways, those were good days, I take it a little easier on my body now, I know i'm going to be hurting when i'm like 40 though, already am. Hhaha take care.

Mike

EDIT: I don't know how to spell!

Was this to me?
Even so, that's quite an injury. And I thought chest injuries were painful. Ouch man!

That's awesome! riding with the Canadian Beast himself!
They used to be called 50/50's (from the skateboarding term) but the younger generation calls them double-peg grinds. I agree, my body already feels like I'm an old man, hate to see what it feels like when I AM an old man. Won't be fun at all.

It was to anyone and everyone who is interested in seeing them!

Yea it felt like quite the honor and was a little nerve racking because those days all the pros were your heros, but after a few hours when you started talking to him like he's just a friend who is really good at it, not a celebrity. Double-peg grinds I coulda guessed that haha. Yea mine does to, little sleep, I still feel that back pain I had after landing on my back, cold, my sprained joints start to stiffen up and barely move and I'm justa youngin haha. Extreme sports are getting ridiculous these days, awesome, but insanely crazy, wish I had the skill to do it all and the will to take the beatings learning.

Yeah, I was mostly into flat, so watchin' Jay Brown and Steve Roy was more the highlight, LOL! Talked to Kevin Jones quite a lot over the phone. That guy is my idol!!!

My reason for stopping vert riding: (I also have a different reason for no more mini-ramps either, ha ha):

Handle-bar through the knee. yeah, no grip ends back in the day. OUCH!
